Jordan Brand Commercials

4 02 2010

Each time I see a Jordan Brand commercial I immediately sit up in my chair and give it my full, undivided attention. This occurrence is eerily similar to the reaction that I and other trainees and armed forces members had and continue to have each time a superior enters the room during boot camp and throughout their military careers. This is the concept that made us decide to create a list of our favorite Jordan commercials. This list is in no particular order, but rather a small stroll through some of the most impactful JB ads of recent years.

We’ll start with one which debuted just a few weeks back, as JB released, “Break To Build”. This commercial and it’s title mimic the principal idea of boot camp in many, fundamental ways. With that said, let’s jump start the journey. Please follow along…

“Break To Build”

To many (present company included) the Jumpman means more then simply footwear and apparel. Some consider it a status symbol as, although it is not necessarily on the same level of the luxury goods market pricewise, it is more expensive then other products in it’s category. Meanwhile, there is another group of folks (I’m not ashamed to admit I fit here) that consider it symbolic in a much different way. They view “all things Jordan” to equate directly to the kind of work ethic and intensity which his name has been synonymous with for more then the past two decades. This next video, “Maybe It’s My Fault”, is a testament to that point and another TCNY favorite.

“Maybe It’s My Fault”
.

.

The feeling of defeat and lose is one we all agonize over during stages of our lives. More then likely, these instances are more relevant in your memory then your victories or gains. In the next commercial, “Failure”, MJ recounts the numerous times he himself has had these feelings. The irony here is that when we think of his career, we only think of his amazing feats. Funny, isn’t it?

“Failure”
.

.
.

Anxiety is such a tough obstacle for many young people nowadays. Even as an adult it can bring unneeded and additional stress. “Look Me In The Eyes” is a piece which explores this exact state of mind and encourages the virtues of patience and self awareness to us all. In life, these specific characteristics are some of the most important, yet often lost.

“Look Me In The Eyes”
.

Finally, JB’s latest features it’s most recent addition, Dwayne Wade. In “Nightmare’s Never Sleep”, the haunting voice which narrates the video describes the importance of mastering reaction, agility, focus and control while D.Wade displays his abilities amidst smoke and concrete. Accompanying the commercial is a game available to all on the Jordan Brand site which you can access by **clicking here**. Enjoy the ad, then play the game and keep an eye out for another batch of our favorite Jordan commercials coming soon.

Become Legendary y’all!!

2009 New York Jets — PLAYOFFS?!?!?!

6 01 2010

Due to the recent playoff berth of my beloved NY Jets, I want to take a few moments to address some things which I’ve heard, read and witnessed as of late. And, before I “go in”, I want to issue a slight disclaimer — we here at TCNY are not simply casual fans, we are dedicated to our favorite sports teams with the greatest of devotion and loyalty. With that said, we are realistic about our expectations for these franchises and know not to expect too much from a struggling group while also holding a squad to the highest of aspirations when they have the talent and personnel necessary to achieve great success.

With the mandatory warning out of the way, I want to start by saying that IF Saturday afternoons game in Cincinnati does end in a loss I have nothing but congratulatory remarks for the entire New York Jets franchise on an overly successful season in 2009. To reach the postseason in the NFL is a great accomplishment and furthermore, to do it with both a rookie Quarterback and Head Coach is only that much more impressive.

Now, IF we happen to go into Cincy and defeat Mr. Ocho and his band of Bungles, that does validate the organization and the various beliefs about “backing into the playoffs” must cease as they will have beaten a very good team in a very meaningful game. Again, reaching the playoffs in the modern era of the NFL is not an easy task and winning in the postseason is even more difficult. So I look forward to the game and will be rooting for my team throughout, however, win or lose I will be wearing a smile regardless. I hope fellow Jets fans will follow suit.

2009 Holiday Shopping Guide (Men’s Edition)

9 12 2009

Since we are currently in the midst of the holiday shopping season, I thought it be great to address a concern which many of us (especially guys) struggle with. The question itself is asked millions of times throughout the world each year at the same time — “What do you want for Christmas?”

Now, if you’re like me, this is a very tough question as I’ve always had difficulties handling these situations. Don’t get me wrong, I think it is an incredibly kind gesture for someone to offer to purchase a gift, however, I’ve always felt a bit awkward. For instance, what if you give a person an idea and it is too expensive for what they had planned? That would be a weird moment. Or, perhaps you’re asked by a loved one who has no clue how to find the things which interest you — “Sorry Grandma, I thought you be able to find me Air Yeezy’s” — it’s simply not going to happen.

Aside from all of that, there is the fact that growing up poor has taught me that exchanging gifts is not all the holidays have to offer. This special time of the year should also be about spending time with those who have been by your side — even when times were grime. It wasn’t until I began making my own money that I truly got into the spirit of giving tangible gifts to others and I must admit, the feeling I have when my well-thought gift brings a smile to the recipients face is incomparable. And that central idea is what sparked the concept for this, TCNY’s Official 2009 Holiday Shopping Guide For Men. Just because some of us feel uncomfortable communicating our desires doesn’t mean we shouldn’t love the gifts we’re given, right? Below is a list of items which are cherished, owned and/or desired by the friends and family of TCNY and we’re sure the men in your life would truly enjoy each and every one. Happy shopping y’all!

— Palladium Boots

Palladium opened it’s doors nearly 100 years ago and got their start making tires for the aviation industry during the WWII era. It wasn’t until 1947 that they launched into the footwear business with the idea of making a boot that was as durable as a tire. Fast forward to present day and they have become world renowned for their modern manufacturing techniques, use of premium materials as well as cutting edge style. Oh, and in case that wasn’t enough, these are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn — true story.

Check out all their styles over at **Palladium Boots**

.
.
— Nike Air Max Lebron VII White

Ok, so we are by no way Bron Bron fans here, but I have to be honest… this is one of my favorite functional basketball shoes ever! They fit incredibly well and provide cushioning that is unparalleled in this category. I seriously suggest this clean colorway as well, but you know there will be many more coming available in the near future.

Head on over to the **Nike Store** for more info and availability.

.
— Proper Cloth Custom Dress Shirts

Enough with the footwear, let’s get to the threads! Proper Cloth is a New York based company which began in 2008. All of the fabrics used are brought over from Europe and/or Japan and each shirt is hand sewn right here in the US to your exact specifications. These guys started with an idea and ended up with a fantastic business model and an even better product. Even easier, if you’re concerned about the fit or if you don’t happen to know your guy’s measurements, this is certainly a spot which would be an excellent candidate for a gift card…

But don’t believe me, hit their site and experience it yourself — **Proper Cloth**

— The Economist (Magazine Subscription)

As I have grown into a business professional I have found this magazine to be extremely helpful. The Economist doesn’t just specialize in topics of finance, but rather explores the business and political avenues which traditionally transpire behind the scenes and are unseen by the masses. One of the most intriguing things about the magazine is it’s anonymity. You will never see an author stake his or her claim to any article they publish. According to the company’s website, the purpose of this is to convey the idea of speaking with a collective voice. In addition, anonymity also allows the magazine to employ multiple authors on one article which inherently prevents the possibility of potential bias. However, the greater reason for the cloak is to emphasize the integrity of the work and ensure that the language on the page is more important the who may have written it.

All in all, this publication is essential to any business professional who wants to excel at what they do. Need I say more?

Amazon offers a fantastic price on a one year subscription, **click here** to view.

— Men’s Clinique 3-Step Skin Care

I’m sure we’re going to receive some feedback on this one, but truth be told, good hygiene is extremely important and a person’s face is the first thing seen each day we leave our homes. That should be reason enough to make sure you take care of it and Clinique has the right products to help. Their 3-Step program is simple and easy to follow, as it should be with men’s skin care! The package consists of just a cleanser, exfoliater and moisturizer. I swear by this stuff and for those of you who know a special gent with oily skin, trust me, he’s gonna appreciate this gift.

Create the perfect gift package over at **Clinique.com**

Well, that’s all we’ve got for now, but stay tuned for new additions as well as the Ladies’ Edition coming soon.

iCandy: Keeley Hazell

24 11 2009

It’s been way too long since we’ve provided something to gawk at, I truly apologize and to make things up to you, I proudly present Keeley Hazell. Ms. Hazell is a British model/actress hailing from London and is clearly blessed with an AMAZING set of breasts! It is rumored that she is a 32E, but if you’ve had any experience with the female anatomy, then you know that anything over a D-Cup is totally BANANANANAS!!

Anyway, I’ll shut up now and allow the drooling to continue. If you need to see more of Keeley, head to her site — www.KeeleyHazell.uk

NFL Week 8 Lines

29 10 2009

Because like many of you out there, I too suffer from “gamblitis”. That is the term we here at TCNY use to define our erratic betting strategies used to “beat Vegas” on a weekly basis during the NFL season. And due to my recent success as of late, I’ve decided to share a few of my picks with you! Take a look below as I’ve picked a few potential locks so you all can join in the risk and reward for this week.

* Broncos at Ravens
Favorite: Ravens, by 3 and a half [O/U: 41 and a half]
Synopsis: Yours truly know that the Broncos will inevitably lose, but this ain’t gonna be the week. Denver’s Rookie Head Coach, Josh McDaniels, has his team rolling and believing in his system. This guy has turned Kyle Orton into a viable NFL Quarterback and transformed former problem child WR, Brandon Marshall, into a responsible teammate.
TCNY’s Pick: Broncos to cover and the under

* Vikings at Packers
Favorite: Packers, by 3 [O/U: 47 and a half]
Synopsis: This may sound familiar, but yours truly know that the Vikings will inevitably lose, but this ain’t gonna be the week. Mr. Favre is returning to Lambeau and he also has his team rolling right along. Now, I know the Packers’ have had this game circled on the calendar since Brett’s signing and they’ve been chomping at the bit to get after him and that’s awesome, really. But there is one obstacle in the way — Adrian Peterson. “All Day” hasn’t been stopped all season and I doubt the suspect Green Bay defense will be the team to neutralize him.
TCNY’s Pick: Vikings to cover and the under

* Rams at Lions
Favorite: Lions, by 4 [O/U: Off]
Synopsis: Here’s an interesting scenario, Detroit is the favorite! Come on, that doesn’t happen too often folks!! Now listen, I highly doubt the Rams will wind up replicating the Lions winless effort of last season, but they ain’t gonna change that this week. Even if Megatron ends up missing the contest and Stafford’s injury keeps him out as well, backup QB Daunte Culpepper and RB Kevin Smith are enough to lift the Lions over St Louis on Ford Field.
TCNY’s Pick: Lions to cover

Good luck y’all and I hope these suggestions help! Let me know how you do.

2009 BET Hip-Hop Awards — “The Cypher”

27 10 2009

Although I’m not a fan of BET and do not particularly care for it’s sub par programming, I have enjoyed the segments of their annual hip-hop award show which is so aptly named “The Cypher” — I don’t have to explain, right?? Anyway, Below are the three videos which appeared during this year’s show and probably the best features the network has ever done. The main reason for that is Premo, especially since he technically serves as the host here. But my sincere suggestion, watch each one and then go back and listen to Eminem’s verse once more. In a word… incredible. Oh yeah and Joey kills it too! But, go watch for yourself and as always y’all — ENJOY!!

** Number One Featuring Nicki Minaj, Buckshot, Crown Royyal & Joe Budden

** Number Two Featuring Wale, Nipsey Hussle, Gsan & KRS-One

(( Note to BET – Rap should never need subtitles!!! ))

** Number Three Featuring Mos Def, Black Thought & Eminem

2009 World Series – Yankees vs Phillies

25 10 2009

Here we go! This’ll be the 40th time we’ve been in this position, and more importantly, it’s going to be the 27th time we win a championship! Mark my words, Yankees in 6. A-Rod is going to play well and certainly earn his first ring, but this is going to be a time when the new additions — Sabathia, Burnett and Teixiera will really shine.

Man, Wednesday can’t come fast enough!!

Entourage Season Six Finale

4 10 2009

Like most of you out there, we here at TCNY are huge Entourage fans and have been since it’s first episode back in ‘04. There is absolutely no “bandwagon jumpers” aboard this ship, as a matter of fact, that is our manifesto. Now that the disclaimer is out of the way, let’s discuss this evenings Season 6 finale.

Where do I start, hhmmm… What the fuck?!?!? No seriously, what the fuck… I’m absolutely floored! Let me rephrase my disposition — WHAT THE MOTHERFUCK???!!! We’ve all realized that this season was stitched with a common thread and that the concepts of “change” and “growth” would be prevalent all season long, but not like this!! Don’t get me wrong, I understand the premise of Eric and Sloan getting hitched and moving on with their lives and I genuinely like the idea… but it’s destined for failure!

Now, I know HBO has announced that Season 7 is in the pipeline, but Doug Ellin had better start writing now if he’s going to have this work! Aside from the soon to be newlyweds, we also saw Ari completing his maturation process while agree to put his ill feelings behind him and take over Terrance’s agency, amicably… aside from the little paintball tantrum. Then, we have Drama being offered a leading role and a potential development deal with a major network. Plus, we witnessed an official breakup between Sal and Jamie. Yeah, I’m going to call him Sal from now on, I don’t know why, but I feel it’s appropriate. Anyway, as if all the above wasn’t enough, we’ve now witnessed Lloyd officially becoming an agent and the shameless promotion and emergence of Matt Damon’s charity, One X One. And last but not least, we will eventually come to a crossroads with our main character — Vinny. How is his comeback and return to stardom going to collide with the dismantling of his crew? There is just too much going on here people!!

In closing I want to leave you with this thought — traditionally, this much “change” during a season finale is a great idea for a drama or soap opera, but it rarely works out in a comedy. I wish Mr. Ellin the best of luck and hope he successfully continues with his masterpiece with next summer’s Season 7. Our fingers are crossed…

New Music: Dirty Money — “Love Comes Down”

30 09 2009

New music brought to you by the good folks at TCNY!

Here is “Love Comes Down” the latest single from Puff’s ‘Last Train To Paris’ which is set to hit stores November 24, 2009. This is the follow up to “Angels” which received heavy airplay but fell slightly short of ever reaching Billboard’s Hot 100.

We at TCNY feel this is a record you need to hear. Hit the link below and feel free to get up an dance… ENJOY!

New Video: Grammy Family — “Whatever You Want”

30 09 2009

Ok, so it seems we are going to soon see an album from the GOOD Music team, Grammy Family. Take a look at the initial promo/single from Ye, Cons and John Legend titled “Whatever You Want” which was shot in one of TCNY’s favorite vacation destinations, Miami.

Let us know what you think… ENJOY!

New Video: Drake — “Forever”

24 09 2009

This is the official video for the Drake’s latest effort, “Forever”, featuring Kanye, Lil Wayne and Eminem. Because of his appearance at the very beginning and the continuous footage of his feats throughout, it’s safe to assume this record will be used as some sort of promotional tool for LeBron’s film ‘More Then A Game’ which is set to hit theaters on Friday, October 2nd.

With that said, please don’t discredit the video as it unites some of the best in the game right now. This alone is enough to excite even the most jaded hip-hop fan, ME!

So, as always, kick back and ENJOY!

Out & About: Jay-Z’s “Answer The Call” at MSG

11 09 2009

Jay-Z — "Answer The Call" Concert at MSG — Sept 11 2009

Jay-Z — "Answer The Call" Concert at MSG — Sept 11 2009

One word — WOW! This show was fantastic… How was the view from home, LOL?!?! Anyway, there were too many special guests and appearances to name (besides, I’m beat!), but I’m planning on adding more pics and a full review sometime this weekend.

Stay tuned…

The Best Dunk EVER!

8 09 2009

Guy Dupuy threw down this absolutely ridiculous dunk a few nights back at London’s Midnight Madness Dunk Contest. Please understand, this man launches the ball in the air, then simultaneously makes the catch, passes it his legs and leaps over the man standing before the rim all while in the air! For the first time in years… I’m totally speechless LOL. Just watch the video and see for yourself!!

New Music: Kid Cudi — “Soundtrack 2 My Life”

7 09 2009

New music brought to you by the good folks at TCNY!

Some of you probably remember a few months back when Kanye West and Kid Cudi appeared on BET’s ‘106 & Park’ and freestyled for the fans… Well here is the record which Cudi’s lines belong to. This is easily one of my favorite tracks from him thus far, especially the opening line — “I got 99 problems and they all bitches, wish I was Jigga Man, care-free living…”. Hit the link below and give it a few spins.

ENJOY!

Out & About — Ralph Lauren Rugby (Newbury St, Boston)

27 08 2009

So as most of you know, anytime I’m in a new area I make it a point to hit up the local shopping scene. And although I’m a die hard NYer, I must admit Newbury Street in the Back Bay of Boston is definitely the place to be. Not only does it offer the big “Fifth Ave” labels (i.e. Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, etc…) which came be found in Manhattan, but you can also find retailers like Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, G-Star, and others right next door. In addition, Newbury also houses some awesome “boutique” stores like Johnny Cupcakes, Bodega and the TCNY favorite — RL’s Rugby. Above is a shot of possibly the dopest hooded Rugby ever… MINE! My colleague and I spent nearly 3 hours with the lovely Abigail and other staff members creating some amazing pieces. Take a look below to view more pics of another great TCNY adventure…

If your travels ever bring you to Boston, I encourage you to visit Newbury Street. And should you happen to stroll on in to the Rugby store, tell’em we sent ya!

PEACE!

Classic Music: Shai — “If I Ever Fall In Love”

27 08 2009

If you’re like me then you understand how great 90’s R&B is. Sure, there are dozens of pop music icons today, but back then it was more about the music then the artist. In those days, a great single meant more then tits, ass and production. Here is just one example of that very point. So with that said, I encourage you to raise the volume on your computer and get your sexy on… ENJOY!

***FYI — I wanted to post up the actual video, but Universal is too fucking greedy and they won’t allow their videos to be embedded.

New Music: Jay-Z — “Venus vs Mars”

26 08 2009

New music brought to you by the good folks at TCNY!

Yet another Timbaland produced record which could make the final cut. This shit is smooth as butter and, at first listen, it sounds like there is a Cassie appearance here. Hit the link below and hear it for yourself…

ENJOY!

|+ Jay-Z — “Venus vs Mars”

New Music/New Video: Raekwon — “House Of Flying Daggers” (Feat. Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah & Method Man)

25 08 2009

I may wind up being a little late on this, but fuck it… this shit is bananananas!! In total honesty, when I heard that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II was due out 9/8, I wasn’t all that excited because I felt it would be… wack. Yeah! I said it! Now, I know that sounds like blasphemy, especially from someone who was introduced to hip-hop through Rae and the Wu, but you had the same thoughts too — don’t front, admit it!!!

Thankfully, by the sights and sounds of the lead single “House Of Flying Daggers”, it seems like we’re in for quite a treat from the Chef. The song is wicked sick ((sorry, they say that shit here in Boston and it’s stuck in my head)) and I’m really loving the animation. It reminds me of a certain Black ninja cartoon, can you figure out what I’m eluding to? Watch closely…

In case the video isn’t enough, hit the link below to D/L the record. ENJOY!

|+ Raekwon — “House Of Flying Daggers” (Feat. Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah & Method Man)

New Music: Jay-Z — “Reminder” & “Off That”

25 08 2009

New music brought to you by the good folks at TCNY!

With only 17 days until the release of the Blueprint 3, it’s only right that I hit you with the freshest leaks. Below are the two Timbaland produced tracks which may appear on the album. First, is the smooth and ultra cocky “Reminder”. Then, I proudly present you with “Off That” — a rythmic orgy which waves goodbye to all the “out-dated” trends, either in fashion, music or even society. It’s a high energy record which is going to be the club banger of 2009, GUARANTEED! But, enough with all the chitter-chatter, hit the links… ENJOY!

Out & About: Yankees vs. Red Sox

12 08 2009

Yankee Stadium 2009

First off – Fuck Boston! Sorry, I had to do that.

Anyway, last weekend I had the absolute pleasure of seeing my beloved Yankees sweep Boston. I was in attendance during Thursday night’s blowout and I was fortunate enough to score tix to Friday night’s incredible marathon game. If you are a fellow Yankee fan, I’m sure you’ll agree that both games were amazingly enjoyable for their own individual reasons.

Aside from the action on the field, the ambiance of the new stadium is remarkable in and of itself. I cannot give enough thanks to the folks who took part in it’s creation, as they maintained so many elements of the old park. This is yet another reason why I take such pride in my own Yankeeness (did I just coin that term? LOL), and I “enjoy a day at the ballgame” every chance I get.
